Dr. Gerry Tonn, Lead Pastor

Gerry and his wife Elaine are passionate about the church being a place where Christ followers discover how to fulfill God’s plan and purpose for their lives.  Pastor Gerry is adamant about fulfilling The Great Commandment:

"And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these." (Mark 12:30-31, NLT)

Gerry and Elaine Tonn have served in ministry together for over 30 years. They both graduated from Vanguard College in Edmonton, AB, and then Gerry went on to pursue and complete his Master of Arts degree (M.A. in Religion, specializing in Theology and Counseling) from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He also has a Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min in Leadership) from Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, ON.

Elaine grew up on the mission field in Argentina and has served in areas of Pastoral Administration, Teaching, Christian Education and Pastoral Care.

They have pastored in Hamilton, Scarborough, Thunder Bay and then in Aurora, ON. They were married in 1982 and have two daughters, Alyssa and Sheryce.  Sons-in-law Jonathan and Micah and three grandkids Kaiya, Ashton and Ella have joined the family and altogether make for great family dinners!

Gerry enjoys drinking coffee every hour of every day. Elaine also enjoys coffee—though not as much as Gerry.  They both love trying different kinds of ethnic food.

Rev. David Dwarka, Associate & Youth Pastor

David and Sonia love interacting, encouraging and loving people. Pointing people toward what God has for their lives has been what brings them much satisfaction in ministry. Pastor David uses two verses as a guiding principle for ministry:

"Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool." (Isaiah 1:18, NLT)

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.'" (Matthew 16:24-25, NLT)

David has served for over 13 years in pastoral ministry. Before arriving to Cedarview, he served for 3 years in downtown Toronto at Toronto Chinese Alliance Church as a youth pastor. He graduated from Masters College & Seminary in Peterborough, ON with a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th. in Pastoral Ministry) and from Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, ON with a Master of Divinity (M.Div. in Clinical Counselling).

Pastor Marie Teskey, Administrative Pastor

Marie and her husband Ryans' family verse is:

“For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:5, NIV)

We are thankful for both our immediate family, and for the family of God who play a real and tangible role is our everyday lives. I grew up attending Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Hamilton, ON. and was blessed to be able to work there for 6 years as the Manager of Preschool Ministries and Administrative Assistant to the Youth and Young Adult Pastors. I have enjoyed being part of the Cedarview Staff since 2013 and am thrilled that I can serve our local community through the gift of Administration.  I have graduated from Eastern Pentecostal Bible College with a Certificate in Youth Ministry, and have completed other courses since. I have also graduated from St. Clair College with a Diploma in Law and Security Administration.

Pastor Emily Wall, Children’s Pastor

Born and raised in the Upper Ottawa Valley, Emily holds a Bachelor of Theology from Master's College and Seminary (Peterborough, ON), majoring in Pastoral Ministry.  She is passionate about equipping individuals and families to live in wholeness, relying on the Word and Spirit of God to provide direction and hope.  Whether she is leading in worship, planning a VBS, teaching children piano, or drinking (too much) coffee, Emily remains committed to pursuing the calling of Christ, no matter the place or form (Philippians 3:12).

Using her education, skills and interests in the areas of music, counseling, Bible teaching, and ministry to children and families, she looks forward to watching children become excited about their faith, and developing living personal relationships with the Holy Spirit.  Even more, she desires to see families come together to love the LORD with all their hearts, souls, minds, and strengths/skills.  Through this, her prayer is that God would empower us (as the Cedarview family) to love our neighbors in the same manner as our Savior loved us (Matthew 22:26-40).

Emily has previously served in various ministry capacities, including her time spent as Assistant Pastor (Summer Student Placement) at Madoc Pentecostal Church (Madoc, ON), and guest speaker/worship leader at various churches and women's conferences throughout Eastern Ontario.  She is also a trained peer counselor with the Canadian Association of Pregnancy Support Services (CAPSS).

Pastor Marcia Lopes, Assistant Children's Pastor

Marcia is dedicated to partnering with families with the direct intentions of serving God with excellence; demonstrating love for children; and bringing children into a life- changing relationship with Jesus Christ, helping them grow in their love for God and service to others. She is committed to living by example and encouraging children to live up to their full potential in Christ. Marcia uses two Biblical scriptures as fundamental principles when working in children’s ministry:

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

As a wife, mother, and teacher, Marcia is compelled to live her life with Godly confidence and demonstrate competency in her gifting as a teacher. She has more than a decade of expertise in educating children and building trust with families; and fostering relationships with warmth, honesty, and transparency. Marcia’s educational studies include a Bachelor of Arts Specialized Honours Degree from York University; Bachelor of Education from York University; Reading Specialist and English as a Second Language certification from York University; and an Early Childhood Education Diploma from Seneca College. Her experience also extends to managing and leading Sunday School programs for young children and volunteering in Vacation Bible School for various church organizations.
